Dr. David Kalinowski
Dr. Kalinowski graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1990 and proceeded to move into private practice form there. After practicing veterinary medicine on the Iron Range for numerous years, Dr. Kalinowski decided to further his career by buying the Mesaba Animal Hospital in 2009. He has since grown the business to the size of 3 doctors, 5 technicians, 3 receptionists, and numerous other individuals that perform vital tasks that make our animal hospital work on a daily basis. Dr. Kalinowski has the knowledge and skills to treat your pet, no matter the type. Dr. K. treats dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, pocket pets, and goats. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, gardening, reading, kayaking, fishing, and spending time with his wife and three children.
Dr. Treichel graduated with a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1995 and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State in 1999. Upon graduation, he began practice in a mixed animal practice in Westby, Wisconsin. In February 2005, he began practicing at a clinic in Grand Rapids, Minnesota as a mostly small animal veterinarian, but he worked on all species. Dr. Treichel enjoys working with all species, but focuses on small animals at the Mesaba Animal Hospital. Dr. Treichel is married to Karrie, his college sweetheart, and they have one college-aged son. He has one Labrador Retriever (Auti), one cat (Bucky), and two horses (Mikko and Cosmo). In his spare time, he enjoys fishing for walleye, hunting, camping, hiking, and watching hockey. Dr. Treichel has volunteered with the local chapter of Let’s Go Fishing, a non profit organization that takes Seniors, adults with disabilities, and kids fishing. Dr. Treichel has given talks to 4H and other organizations over the years, and has also volunteered in the Boy Scouts of America when his son was young. He is looking forward to continuing his 18 years of compassionate medical care to the patients of the Mesaba Animal Hospital for years to come.
Dr. Molly Feiro
Please welcome Dr. Molly Feiro to our clinic! She was raised in Hibbing and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science in 2013. She then moved on to get her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Edinburgh in 2017. In her free time, she enjoys kayaking, horseback riding, reading, and perfecting her various musical talents. She has one animal kid, a cat, named Gus. Her passion lies within exotic and small-animal medicine.
Tammy Kalinowski, Practice Manager
Tammy has served double duty as Dr, Kalinowski's wife and Practice Manager here at Mesaba Animal Hospital since 2009. Her "dungeon" is upstairs where she has three clinic cats that help her with her daily tasks.
Dr. Kalinowski and Tammy have three children. Liz is their oldest, Bev, their middle child, and Ben is their youngest.
They also have two animal kids: A bulldog (Kenya) and a cat (Flo).
When not at work, she enjoys sewing, scrap booking, cross stitching, reading, and cooking.
Trevor Elg, CVT, Head Technician/Staff Supervisor
Trevor is from Virginia, where he attended high school and graduated in 2008. He went on to attended the University of Minnesota, Crookston and Duluth Business University to achieve an A.A.S. in Veterinary Technology. He joined us in 2013 when he moved back to the Iron Range after a stint in Tallahassee, FL. In his free time he enjoys hunting, playing most sports (especially hockey and soccer), snowmobiling, and renovating his home. Him and his wife have a Congo African Grey (Tshabalala), two cats (London and Connery), and a Whippet dog (Pierce).
Tina Glad, Receptionst/Veterinary Technician
Tina has worked at the Mesaba Animal Hospital since March of 2000. She was born and raised in Hibbing where she is married with three children. Tina is a very quick learner. She completed an in-house, hands-on training regimen to become a Veterinary Technician, a position that she has excelled at ever since. She enjoys spending time with her family and pets "Morgan" (Chocolate Lab) and "Aspen" (Wire-haired pointer).
Bobbi Bukovich, Receptionist
Bobbi joined us in June of 2011. She is from the Iron Range, as well, and is married with four wonderful children. She enjoys spending time with her family, vacationing, four wheeling, and playing with her pets: "Addie"-St. Bernard, "Ammo"-Chocolate Lab, "Ava Grace"-St. Bernard, "Miley"-calico cat, "Juliette"-calico cat, and "Goliath"-Bearded dragon.
Kylee Birdsall, Receptionist
We are excited to announce Kylee as our newest addition to the Mesaba Animal Hospital staff! She is from Chisholm where she lives today with her boyfriend and his daughter. She attended HCC where she completed her Associate's degree. Kylee enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her Bloodhound, "Daisy Duke."
LuAnn Sunsdahl, Certified Veterinary Technician
LuAnn was a part of the team that moved to the Mesaba Animal Hospital when Dr. Kalinowski took over the practice in 2009. She was born and raised in the area and went to Ridgewater College for her A.A.S. in Veterinary Technology. LuAnn was born with a strong passion for veterinary medicine. She has a 'healthy' obsession with canine and feline dentistry. She is one of the most knowledgeable people on our staff, and this knowledge has earned her such nicknames as the "Dental Queen" and "Flea Queen", for her infamous, yet insightful, discussions with clients. She still resides in the area with, what she calls,"Enough animals to keep me warm in the winter months."
Emily Willard, Certified Veterinary Technician
Emily joined our team in October 2010. She was born, raised, and graduated from Hibbing High School. After high school, she went to Duluth Business University and received her A.A.S. Veterinary Technology. She enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, and is well known around the area for her delicious cup cakes. Emily is now married with 3 kids and has a Neopolitan Mastiff named Walter.
Beth Tepovich, Certified Veterinary Technician
Beth started with us as an intern in the Penn Foster Veterinary Technician program in June of 2012. She has since graduated and achieved her certification in veterinary technology. She grew up in Hibbing and enjoys spending time with her husband and three cats, Itty, Snoopy, and Kaius. Her hobbies include: video games, movies, board games, computer technology, and karate.
Shanon Viburg, Certified Veterinary Technician
Shanon started out by interning with us while finishing the Veterinary Technician program at Duluth Business University, and she later moved onto our team to fill a vacancy. She grew up in Buhl, MN and now resides in Mt. Iron. In her free time, she enjoys ceramics, crocheting, reading, horse riding, and caring for her various pets on her hobby farm.
